This all felt like it should have been the B plot of an episode, and I hate critiquing this show, but I felt like this one episode could have been paced differently. Love the rest of the show and this week's episode was perfect.

Two full seasons and we don't even know what the hell the MDR department or any other department is doing lol. This season feels way to drawn out with little to no satisfaction. This episode could have been 20 mins. I know they are just setting everything up for season 3 but man just get on with the story. I hope the payoff is worth it.

If you like being stalled like this and that absolute backtrack that was from the climax of last season hey you do you. I've watched a lot of slow burning shows and if it's done right, which Severance season 2 isn't doing, I don't mind it at all. What I like is the right pace to the story we have in hand. Season 1 was slow and it was AMAZING but season 2 just couldn't be slower with worst content, it doesn't make sense. The best example of what this season has been was the outdoors episode. Just complete filler with a cliffhanger, then in the next episode they skip the resolution of the cliffhanger like nothing happened, like the stakes didn't matter. Look, I liked the Burt and Irving thing, but with that that's like what? 2 good Irving moments? Dylan got what? Maybe 1? One of the chats with his outties wife. Mark has been weirdly absent this season, the season in which he's literally reintegrating. I hate Reghabi's character, just so bad. The rest isn't even worth mentioning, thank god Cobel got anything this season.

2025-03-08 01:45:49 +0000 UTC@Nanashi - when I read your last comment, the first thing I thought about, and dont take this negatively, was that you probably dont like foreplay all that much. π I actually love how this season we are getting more "horizontal" development of the show, and not going higher to reach the "top", with the top being where we get all the answers. This way all the characters and the broader context will have more meat to it, which, when handled appropriately up to the point where we approach the CLIMAX (sorry not sorry) it will feel better! Just try letting yourself ease into it... π

2025-03-08 00:56:55 +0000 UTCI think the second season terrifically builds on the first one, and so naturally as well, while also keeping so much suspense at an awesomely satisfying pace. I never feel the ending of each episode leaves me unsatisfied because throughout each episode, if you pay enough attention, it is giving so much subtle context clues that inform much more of the grand narrative... I feel like most people arent thinking back enough about everything that happened in previous episodes. This show drastically changes your perspective of characters AND events with new reveals and details even if they sometimes might seem insignificant, but often they completely change the meaning of events if you connect the dots to important plot points from seemingly unimportant moments throughout season 1 up to now. People just dont pay attention or dont remember details well. After each episode there is so much to think about. The story keeps going in your head if you are trying to tie everything together since it is still not easy to guess how it will all end but we are getting so much material to work with after each episode. This is the best part of this show for me, because even when its over I still feel like I am entertained in my head.

After last season's ending I felt like the plot would accelerate and mysteries would be revealed and we would get more interesting plots with higher stakes but we're just stopped in time rn, for a whole season. I thought Mark's reintegration would be a major plot this season but literally nothing has happened, it's crazy. It'll be used for a cliffhanger in the last episode. The stalling is egregious imo. I feel like we got less from all the characters this season except for Gemma and Harmony cause of the last episode, which I didn't even like. I could really go on and on about this season but we like what we like. It's a shame cause I loved the Gemma episode so much.

Second season has been like the writers gave the show to someone else and they're trying to replicate it. I can't take these episodes that are 90% filler with a cliffhanger in the end, just write a decent episode with this side plot in it. Now I'm remembering about the goats episode and thinking what was that for, are we just wasting time? Season 1 had so much character work. Now we only got a sprinkle of some of them, barely feel like I've been with the main squad. The only episode I like were the first 2 only because they connected directly to the first season's ending and the Gemma episode which was a masterpiece in storytelling.

I think the Mark/Gemma fascination is deeper, seeing as she was a child laborer who was groomed to rely on this cult for life. I think that is why she was so fascinated by Mark and was stalking him against Lumon's wishes. It links to a major theme of the show: "Does love transcend severance?"

2025-03-07 20:18:29 +0000 UTCIt's so interesting knowing this information now, especially since Cobel was trying so hard to tell the Board that reintegration was possible in season 1, and they wouldn't listen to her. Also, her dedication to remaining on the severed floor. That was HER life's work. The indoctrination and brainwashing as children adds up and changes my perspective on her "outbursts". It's like watching a child throw a tantrum, because she never got to learn and grow from real human relationships and interactions. Even though Helena wasn't a child soldier, I feel like Harmony and Helena both have a similar look in their eyes when they watch real relationships unfold. Like Helena when she watches Mark/Helly and Harmony when she watches Mark/Ms Casey interact in Wellness sessions. It's like a sad longing for something they have never had. I think this episode is beautiful and I love how it sets the scene. I think it told us a lot without saying much, until the reveal at the end. Like, it would've been easy to show Cobel switch sides after getting fired, but seeing her hometown where she was stolen from. Seeing how her mother was on a feeding tube after she was taken at the age of 12 and never got to see her again. Her town, that Lumon took over, in financial turmoil and addicted to drugs that these child laborers apparently had access to when they were 8 years old. And finally her life's work being credited to someone else. It adds so much to the motivations and makes it so much more compelling.

Felt very fast to me because I was completely engrossed and I agree with others saying that we learned a lot from this episode about why Harmony was the way she was. Until now, everything with her has been speculation, but now we know for sure.

With Cobel going straight to her sisters, we wouldn't have the same understanding we have of how desolate and just fkd her hometown is. The point was to show just how deeply Lumon wrecked her hometown after probably using all its resources. Stuff like that needs to be seen and felt to have an impact. Cutting it out might not seem like a big deal, but the fact is, it won't mean as much as the writer probably wanted to impart on the viewers. And from the "inside" clip the producers put at the end of every episode, the scenic shots were more a representation of who Harmony is as a person inside. Without the huff pedler bit, we also wouldn't know that in addition to the child labor stuff, Lumon was essentially getting young kids so high that some of them are still addicted to it today. I'm sure it'll be further explained later, but I feel like so far, all we had were vague ideas and hypothesis and this episode gave us stuff that is much more concrete.

Personally I think reintegration is just going to be a matter of whether innie Mark will soften outie Mark or if outie Mark will harden innie Mark. The complexity will probably come for his feelings for both Gemma and Helly. I think the hardest person to reintegrate would be Gemma since sheβs split in six selves rather than two. She might just break from that. What she would need is a way to wall her off so sheβs never switched in and out. She should just be the self that didnβt experience all the other tortures she went through and maybe reintegrate Ms Casey since itβs the only self that new innie Mark π₯² And to the last comment Canon made in the outro, part of me isnt sure that Burt even was severed. It looks like he might have been with Lumon before they took over the world so he might have also grown up there and just acted his ass off in the office. I feel like his outie self is almost psychopathic though, so there are better chances for him to be severed as you say π . Who knows, he might even be the person who did all the paintings at Lumon. Anyway, I just dont think the number of years will matter as much since heβs much more aware of whatβs what.

Depsite that, I still enjoyed it & understood the importance of it. (Cobel's past & future motivations. Cobel's turn from a dedicated Lumon soldier. Lumon's seedy history. Ms. Huang's presence.) It's definitely one of the most important episodes.

If they just briefly showed her it would feel disjointed and her character would still feel a little shallow or surface. This episode gave us insight into her character and her complicated relationship with lumon and her motivations so now going forward we can better connect with her and whatever role she plays.

I think it was well-placed time-frame wise and for the first time since she show started, I find myself finally sympathizing with her character.

I personally like when a show tells the story they want to tell and takes time to go deeper with characters over pandering to broad audiences. Cinematically it was gorgeous and I really enjoyed getting the cobel lore. Also got some juicy info and it ended us in a really good place with her on our team to set us up for a banging final two episodes.

It was already a short episode, so I don't really think it's fair to call it stalling, any shorter of a reveal and it would have felt very cheesy. With the new info, you can already look back at the many interactions between Cobel and Lumon, where she was belittled and isolated, which is going to justify the character's next actions.

She said it was pretty & everyone in the whole world should get one. He told her they will because of her & they'll all be Kier's children. I truly believe they're using Gemma to create & sell this "ultimate chip" of a painless/worry-free life to get people severed. Helena is also being used as an Eagan to market this, being severed herself. Lumon/Eagans ofc have their own nefarious reasons for this.

She can relate because she was subjected to child labor. I'm sure the hazards of factory work during that time were plentiful. Everyone seems to be addicted to ether which resulted in chronic respiratory illnesses. Her mom may have been affected the same way. In a way she wants to help "change the world." Unfortunately, her ideas aligned with the Eagan philosophy. However, the end doesn't justify the means! I still remember how she's using every severed employee! Especially Gemma!! I don't fully trust her.

Ms Huang is probably a little genius too. Lumon is a medical company, so their school is like an evil medical school so it makes sense cobel would be a genius and know how to create severance. It also explains why she was so ingtirgued by mark and gemma. She wanted to see how they were taking to her invention.
